Adventures in Spain

Having friends in Europe is always makes trips to Europe more affordable and unique. Having friends to show you Basque Country Spain the new 'it' culinary capital of the world is even better. This region is recognized to have more Michelin Star restaurants per capita in the world. It's as though good food is in the genetic make up of the Basque people. Below are just some local samplings from various bars in San Sebastian.

West Indian Girl on the Hunt for a New Leading Lady

What do you do when your female lead singer parts ways with your band and you have big gigs on already booked? No matter what, the show must go on -- and that’s exactly what West Indian Girl is doing. On Friday, the band played at L.A.’s House of Blues without the vocal stylings of former frontwoman Mariqueen Maandig; instead, Tiki Lewis filled in for the night. As they begin their rigorous hunt for a new female vocalist throughout the greater Los Angeles area, the remaining members of West Indian Girl – Amy White, Robert James, Mark Lewis and Francis Ten-- still need someone to step in for the interim.

Lucky for all you aspiring songstresses, West Indian Girl is holding an open call in search of the right chanteuse to join their ranks. If you have a powerful voice and can hit all the right high notes, this may be your chance to hit it big. It doesn’t hurt that West Indian Girl is a very talented band and has already established a presence in the L.A. and national indie music scene. Some other key critera for West IndianGirl’s ideal lead are: stage presence, lots of energy, creativity, the ability to play well with others (or other musicians, at least), experience and unique personal style – along with the willingness to commit to a couple big festival shows at the end of August. Bonus: You’ll not only get to sing with West Indian Girl, but you’ll get paid, too!  All interested parties can contact the band at info@westindiangirl.com

My summer in Seattle and SIFF 2009

The video heard around Seattle

Seattle International Film Festival was a whirlwind of films, events and remarkably good weather for movie goers.  For the staff it's a bit like summer camp but with films and lots of dancing.  This festival for me seems to be even more fun, probably because of the awesome people I worked with.

I was really excited to help introduce my friend's Angie Hill film My Suicide, which even won the Youth Jury Award for Best FutureWave Feature.

Walking around the waterfront of the SAM Olympic Sculpture park with my friend Clare, I realize how much I love Seattle's; cloudy skies, crisp sea air and especially clean air.  It is the complete opposite of Los Angeles, but at the same time made me home sick.

At the close of the festival, there were a lot of good byes, countless happy hours and of course the last minute screener party.  It's like the end of summer camp and no one wants to return home.  Everyone exchanges contact information, (i.e. emails and becomes facebook friends), then post on each other pages to k.i.t. (keep in touch), it's our modern day yearbook.  I'm thankful for my good friend Ben for being my 'Seattle Sponsor' and such a good host! And the countless friends that drove me around and let me sleep on their couches, thanks for welcoming into your home and lives! It was a swell time making new friends and catching up with old ones.  Of course this made it difficult to part from them as I got on the plane back to California, maybe 2010 SIFF, I'll do all over again!

Summer

Summer is quickly approaching and I'm starting to get antsy in Los Angeles.  So I'm packing everything up and putting things in storage to head up north for
SIFF in Seattle and spending my days by the American River.
